At the beginning of 2019, my employment situation was not bad. I only watched El Hormiguero on TV and one day Revilla came.
She told of a friend who had a daughter and instead of her friends giving her things, she gave them an account number to raise funds to build a Children's Hospital in Uganda.
I made pieces and uploaded the videos to YouTube, I already had a lot of things and I thought of making some armchairs for auction. So I could help these children without spending almost any money.
I started looking for Cipri Quintas, a businessman who luckily had a profile on Linkedin. I connected, I told him the idea and he accepted, although after a few days he demolished the director of the Foundation.
I wanted him to give me something to start designing the chairs with. It was the writers' fear of the blank paper and... but he didn't have time to be afraid. Chloé was the one who had started it, because she was a piece. After, Uganda, Africa, jungle, animals. A wild animal, that was appreciated, strong, fierce and kind, in danger. Elephant.
From Chloé I kept the C and from the elephant I wanted the body to support Chloé.
The material for Chloé, Sapeli, red-brown, known and valued.
The material for Elephant, pallet wood. She supports a lot of weight, she is always around to improve our life in the workshop, she has marks from her travels and the advantage that she is very dry and straight. That is a virtue to make furniture.
The C would be the backrest and the armrests as I did with Twisted but an elephant as a body is very heavy. It seems logical but it is a problem to use it. I saw a painting by Dalí, I think, where there are some elephants with very long legs. I can do what I want.
Hollow out the legs as I already did with a stone pillar that ended up as an adjustable bench, Alcázar.
All that remained was to do a resistance test to find out how much he could remove without impairing stability. The most fun part, you make things and you break them to know at what point CRAC.
The next thing was to define volumes and make the prototype. an armchair that is going to be auctioned in a circle of people with potential cannot fail.
When I started with the final ones, I wondered whether to make them the same or different. A second later I thought of doing them with the changed step, they would be symmetrical, more or less. What I did do differently was the logo of the Foundation, in one it is engraved and distributed the three little feet around the chair and in the other in relief with another wood to highlight and placed as the logo that they are.
Chloé was very well received and I started a stool that for reasons of life only became a prototype. work took me away from home and without a workshop it is difficult to make these pieces. Here's the link if you're curious
